About

Datapix was established in 2005 by Marko Tuominen, having previously been in the surveying industry since 1997.
The field of close range photogrammetry is relatively new to the mainstream market, as such Datapix has co-authored a set of guidelines with the ISPRS (International Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing) to help those unfamiliar to the concept to grasp the overall process and understand just how versatile it can be. A document discussing the technical information can be found here: ISPRS Close Range Digital Photogrammetry

The mission statement for Datapix is to stay actively involved at the forefront of the close range photogrammetry industry; not just implementing the latest imaging technologies and techniques, but also creating new methodologies and custom built hardware to adapt to ever changing requirements and demands.

An example of Datapix creating and implementing new technology for close range photogrammetry was in our strive for creating a ‘perfect’ camera for use in close range photogrammetry applications, when we finally acquired the prototype Canon 5D Mark II ‘M’ after 18 months in development. This is a proprietary Monochrome/panchromatic version of the 21 megapixel 5D Mark II, a world first full-frame monochrome sensor in a DSLR camera. It’s the ‘perfect’ imaging device for close range photogrammetry due to the high definition monochrome images and internal stability of the Canon DSLR camera body (in comparison, the latest commercially available aerial systems only use arrays of 11 and 16 megapixel monochromatic sensors; stitched geometrically to form hundreds of megapixels). Our latest system; in conjunction with our super-resolution techniques are able to compose 320 megapixel images captured in a single raw frame for high geometric precision and repeatability.  The posts relating to these achievements can be read here: Datapix Technology
